Today, the day before Halloween, senior activists around the country got creative in their political actions supporting health insurance reform.
In Florida, Barbara DeVane, FLARA Secretary "Trick or Treated" with HCAN allies including the Grim Reaper at The Little House of Horrors (Republican Headquarters in Tallahassee, FL). Their message: "Trick or Treatment!" as they confronted Republicans as to why they are standing in the way of real health insurance reform when 123 people die each day because they lack basic insurance.
The Grim Reaper told Republicans, "thanks for all those dead bodies but playing politics is not healthy for Florida's families."
DeVane said that Obama's health reform plan "will give Americans who have insurance more security and stability. .... And it will rein in the high costs of health care for our families, our businesses and our government. It’s time for Republicans to get on board.”
Meanwhile, in Arizona, Alliance for Retired Americans members and allies told Senator Kyl to halt his tricks regarding health insurance reform. Although Kyl opposes a public option in a health reform bill, he enjoys a nice government-funded, government-run treat known as Medicare.
