Yesterday, Alliance Executive Director Ed Coyle joined House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, several House Representatives and other aging organizations at the U.S. Capitol to address the House health bill up for a vote later this week.
The Alliance joined AFSCME Retirees, AARP, Center for Medicare Advocacy and others in expressing disappoinment at the way the health reform debate has played out - dominated by lies and scare tactics from big insurance companies invested in the status quo. Unfortunately, they have distorted the truth to protect their record profits.
The truth is, the more seniors know about the health insurance reform bill, the more they support it. Now is a time of great optimism and opportunity.
The reasons seniors support reform are quite simple — it improves and protects Medicare for this and future generations by:
· Reducing copayments for preventive care services, increasing payments to primary care doctors, and improving coordination and quality of care for persons with chronic illnesses,
· Improving the solvency of the Medicare trust fund to make sure that Medicare is available for future beneficiaries, and
· Taking steps to close the Medicare Part D doughnut hole.

Excellent post. And I couldn't agree with you more. If this health reforms are geared towards the betterment of the seniors then there is no reason for them not to support it.
