Former U.S. Sen. Alan Simpson, as co-chair of the President's Fiscal Commission on the national debt, has leveled several attacks against seniors and senior advocacy organizations, accusing them of not caring "a whit about their grandchildren … not a whit."
When asked about cuts he would recommend to the President and Congress, he replied, "We are going to stick to the big three," meaning, Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid. For most of mankinds history, large families were natures way of taking care of the elderly members of the tribe. The grandchildren toiled to support their worn out grandparents and large families made it a little easier.
Then we decided that burden shouldnt be borne by future generations but rather be funded by current workers, so we created Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid - the big three - which Mr. Simpson wants to cut away so we dont burden our grandchildren.
Mr. Simpson claims we dont care a whit about [our] grandchildren … not a whit. In the absence today of large families and with the elimination of the big three, in effect he is advocating euthanasia, since that is the only alternative remaining to handle the old people problem.
Instead of a check, mail grandpa a bullet.
By himself, Alan Simpson truly represents Sarah Palins Death Panel for the elderly. Unless you plan to improve their funding, Mr. Simpson, don't touch Social Security, Medicare or Medicaid - they comprise the stabilizing heart of this country.
